Who We Are

The Feline Foundation is an animal welfare organisation working towards the welfare of stray or community cats in Mumbai since 2017. We cater to neglected homeless cats who are severely impacted by living in harsh conditions on the streets.

We do this by conducting strategic sterilisation drives to reduce their overgrowing population, providing medical rehabilitation to the most affected stray cats, and conducting community involvement through outreach and volunteering programs. As an additional project to help the community, we run a low-cost community veterinary clinic that provides affordable medical treatment to all dogs and cats in need.

It is our mission to bring Mumbai’s stray cat population to a healthy and sustainable level and help them live in harmony with people. We are the first NGO in Maharashtra that systematically addresses the needs of community cats.

The Feline Foundation is an 80G, 12A and CSR-1 certified organization.

Our Vision

A healthy and sustainable population of street cats living in harmony with people

Our Mission

To enhance the lives of stray cats in Mumbai through population control, medical care, and community involvement

Our Philosophy

Stray cats that are sterilized, vaccinated and looked after by the community can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

There could be anywhere between a hundred thousand to nearly a million stray cats in Mumbai suffering from a range of problems such as starvation, disease, and injuries from vehicles and predators. The extent to which these cats are affected depends on their age, location, whether they have a caretaker seeing to them, and other such factors.

With countless stray cats living in Mumbai, it is not feasible to remove all of them from the streets and find homes for them. Moreover, it can be detrimental to cats that are used to living outdoors to relocate them to an indoor apartment. In our experience, stray cats that are sterilised, vaccinated and regularly fed by one or multiple caretakers can actually lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Hence our philosophy is that it is possible to improve the lives of stray cats in Mumbai through sterilisation programs, preventative care, medical treatment and community care. Additionally, by raising awareness of stray cats and their lives, we hope to build an enthusiastic cat-loving society that will look out for their needs. Our vision for Mumbai is a healthy and sustainable population of street cats living in harmony with people.

Meet the Team

The Feline Foundation started in 2017 when our co-founders Mriidu, her sister Charu, and their close friend Jason, noticed the extremely poor welfare of community animals, especially community cats, in Mumbai.

Now, we run one of the largest stray cat sterilisation programs in Mumbai, in addition to a low-cost Community Veterinary Clinic offering affordable medical services for both community cats and dogs. We have a dedicated team of over 25 members comprising veterinary professionals, caretakers, operations managers and administrative staff – all united by our passion for driving change in community animal welfare in our city.
